Preparing Your Home to Sell
Getting Your House Ready for Sale
Outside:
- Ensure your lawn is neatly mowed and trimmed.
- Prune all the trees and shrubs around your house.
- Introduce some flowers or place large flower pots around.
- Sweep and tidy all walkways and paths.
- Fix and clean all windows.
- Clean out all gutters and downspouts.
- Repaint outdoor areas showing signs of wear and tear.
- Clean or replace door handles.
- Keep the garage door shut.
Inside:
- Remove all personal items like family photos, awards, homemade crafts, etc.
- De-clutter your home (remove newspapers, boxes, etc.).
- Clean all carpets.
- Repair or repaint any damaged or dirty walls.
- Ensure doors and windows operate smoothly.
- Address minor damages (e.g., plasterwork, wallpaper, squeaky floorboards).
- Add indoor plants.
Additional Suggestions for Hosting an “OPEN HOUSE”:
- If feasible, keep pets out of sight.
- Place fresh flowers in a vase.
- Ensure your home smells inviting.
- Clear off all tabletops, desks, shelves, etc.
- Maximize natural light.
- Use fresh towels in the bathrooms.
- Turn off all TVs and computers during showings and open houses.
- Play soft background music.
- Never host an open house alone for safety reasons.
